In the 70s, through mutual friends, Lex and Noel meet on a memorable canoe trip. It's a good story for another time. The two didn't know later they'd start a business together.
After more life and big moves, both Lex and Noel found themselves on the Olympic Peninsula in WA. Lex with a oceanography degree and Noel with a green building degree start Cornerstone Builders in 1981. Both swinging hammers, with Noel doing the design and Lex running the numbers.
Both Lex and Noel begin to put down roots in Sequim with their wives and start families. Bergen is Noel's first child, she becomes a bigger part of the story later on.
As Lex and Noel's experience grows so does their recognition. These small town builders receive multiple national awards including awards from NAHB National Commercial Builders Council. Custom home building, commercial building and remodeling is what they become known for.
This is where Justin (who comes into the story later) serves the US Army and county while learning valuable skills he uses later to help Cornerstone. As combat operations overseas come to an end, Justin decides to leave the military and pursue a career as a professional fly fishing guide.
Justin and Bergen both find themselves on the Olympic Peninsula. Justin, working as a fly fishing guide and Bergen doing merchandising for a local store. The two meet at a mutual friend's birthday and the rest is history.
This is where the two, Justin and Bergen, come into the scene of Cornerstone Builders. As they begin to settle into married life in Sequim, they both see a need at Cornerstone where they could help. Justin becomes a framer and Bergen starts learning book keeping.
After being in business for over 40 years, Lex and Noel have one of the best crews and office staff they have had. The path for the next generation starts to become clear as a succession plan begins to develop with training for Justin and Bergen.
Cornerstone Builders Inc. becomes Cornerstone Builders, LLC in 2022 to signal the transition of ownership from Lex and Noel to Justin and Bergen. Lex and Noel staying on as consultants and working to ease into the succession to continue a legacy of being an outstanding custom builder on the Olympic Peninsula for generations to come.
